Karamelo Santo was born in the province of Mendoza in 1993. After several number of concerts around stages of the region, the band managed to record and edit, independently, their first album "La Kulebra" in 1994. With this disc the band stood out within the national scene for its musical variety and natural style in which mixed such different rythens as paso doble, boleros and cumbia, with punk rock, ska and murga.
In 1997 the members of the band decided to settle down in La Boca a famous city of Buenos Aires and became in a kind of numerous family whose work made them its live together. This way they built a house-studio where they began to record and produce discs of other bands in order to afford their own expenses. The same year they carried out their second recordings work "Perfectos Idiotas", for the seal "Todos Tus Muertos". The group began their way within the local rock (porteño) circuit.
After plenty of presentations in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, in the year 2000 they made a tour of USA and México, and were the support band of Manu Chao shows in Mendoza and in (Obras Sanitarias Stadium) Buenos Aires.
In 2001 they signed a contract with Benditas Productions (independent production and recording seal) in the winter they started recording "Los Guachos" which was finished in January 2002. The album (the third of their professional work), was artistically produced by Richard Troilo and Karamelo Santo which counted with the special participations of Manu Chao, Tonino Caratore, Gambeat y Chico Ocaña (singer of the Spanish band "Los Mártires del Comás") and with the collaboration of lots of musicians of the "under" they had known along these ten years of rock.
"Los Guachos" was presented in Europe during the months of June and July in 2002 with forty concerts performed in different settings of Germany, France, Austria, and Denmark. In August they carried out the official presentation of the disc in "La trastienda" Buenos Aires where they were applauded by more than nine hundred people.
In the winter of 2003 they made the longest tour of the national rock, they were playing more than three months around eleven European countries where they shared festivals and stage with band like Metallica, Jamiroquai and Coldplay among others. In this second visit to the Old Continent, the Karamelo Santo opened their way to play overseas they are already phenomenon in Germany and Austria which goes on growing.
Last year not only they reaffirmed their position internationally but they also affirmed their ascending success an Argentinian rock stage_ In all their performing around the country they doubled the number of their fans and in the last presentation in Buenos Aires, in "La Trastienda", it was brimming over with more than a thousand of people who celebrated with them the cud of great year.
With an representative increasing of supporters the band which was born not more than ten years ago in Mendoza opens the year 2004 launching a new album. In March under the artistic production of Pablo Guyot and Alfredo Toth, they went into Del Abasto Studio to record the successor songs of "Los Guachos". The record will come to all the record shops of the country in May and it will edited the production seal “Benditas Productions” who besides having edited the last disc arranged the tours of Karamelo around Europe.
The fourth disc "Haciendo Bulla" will have thirteen songs among them they will be "Fruta Amarga" (cover by Rubén Blades) and the last song which was recorded with Antonio Tormo in his visit to their in La Boca. The identity of the band will be present in each song born in the bunker, since the mendocinos settled down the boquense river shore it made them nowadays the unique exponents of the Buenos Aires port. The rich mixture of cumbia, ska, reggae, chamamé, rock with lots of ingredients will reflect the meddlesome, hot and popular celebration which lives in the surroundings of the Riachuelo.
